Customers of local fast food chain Burgerville began noticing something new when handed their cash register receipts last weekâ€" a nudge at their consciences.

The Vancouver, Wash., based Burgerville, which runs 24 restaurants in Oregon, became the first restaurant chain in the country to use a new technology that provides customers with complete nutritional information for the specific meals they have ordered.

The new technology, called the Nutricate receipt program, places Burgerville a step ahead of state-mandated nutrition posting requirements set to begin in January 2011. State regulations will require all chain restaurants to post calories for each item right on their big board menus.
