St. Andrew The Apostle Boy Scout Troop 268 host its sixth annual French toast breakfast from 7 to 11:30 a.m. April 25 at the St. Andrew gymnasium, 331 155th Place. Cost is $5 per person with children 3 and under eating for free. Serving all-you-can-eat French toast with choice of fruit topping, scrambled eggs, sausage, hash browns, juice, coffee or milk. CHEERLEADING TRYOUTS | Crete

XN*FINITY All-Star Cheerleading is recruiting members. Try-outs for the team are from 2 to 4 p.m. April 25. Try-outs are for skill assessment not elimination.  XN*FINITY All-Star Cheer is looking for girls and boys ages 5 to 18. All skill levels accepted.  XN*FINITY has teams in senior, junior, and youth divisions. The Columbian Ladies of Lansing Council 3540 will gather at 6:30 p.m. April 26 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 178th and Lorenz. A special activity for April Pro Life month will take place. The nominating committee will announce the slate of new board candidates for the 2010-2011 year.

FIREFIGHTER FUNDRAISER | Lansing

On April 28, Baskin-Robbins stores across the country are partnering with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation to hold their fourth annual 31 Cent Scoop Night from 5 to 10 p.m. to honor America's firefighters.  Baskin-Robbins will reduce prices of small ice-cream scoops to 31 cents and will be joined by Lansing local firefighters in scooping ice cream. The Baskin-Robbins Community Foundation will also donate $100,000 to the NFFF, a nonprofit organization. The public can join the Lansing firefighters at this event, along with Village President Norm Abbott, Village Clerk Patty Eidam and several village trustees at the Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins, 17733 Torrence Ave.

RICOBENE'S NIGHT | Chicago

De La Salle's Parent Association is hosting its spring Ricobene's Night from 5 to 8 p.m. April 28 at the Bridgeport restaurant located at 252 W. 26th St. Students attending the event and who turn in their sales receipt will receive a pass for a dress down day on April 29. Ricobene's will donate a portion of the proceeds from dine-in, carry-out, or delivery orders from De La Salle customers. Proceeds from this event will be used to purchase trophy and award cases to display students' achievements.

OPEN HOUSE | Chicago

De La Salle Institute will be hosting a spring open house for all sixth- and seventh-grade students and their parents at 6 p.m. April 28 at De La Salle's Institute Campus for Young Men at 3434 S. Michigan Ave. The open house will include a free buffet-style dinner followed by a general overview of the school, along with presentations on academic, spiritual and athletic aspects of De La Salle. BANQUET FUNDRAISER | Munster

New Leaf Resources, a nonprofit Christian counseling center with locations in Lansing and Crown Point, will hold its annual celebration banquet beginning at 6 p.m. April 30 at The Center for Visual & Performing Arts, 1040 Ridge Road. Dinner is served at 7 p.m. Comedian David Dean is scheduled to perform. The cost of the dinner will be underwritten, but an opportunity to support the ministry will take place at the event. DRAMA PERFORMANCE | Chicago Heights

The Drama Group will be staging the Chicago southland premiere of "City of Angels" at 7:30 p.m. April 30 and May 1 and at 2 p.m. May 2 at Bloom High School, 101 W. 10th St. Tickets are $18 for adults and $17 for seniors and students. Students at Thornton Fractional North High School, 755 Pulaski Road, will perform the musical "Dream Girls," at 7 p.m. April 30 and May 1. Adult admission is $4 and student admission is $2. Children under age 12 are free.

CANCER WALK | Chicago

The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition Illinois Chapter announces its 13th annual "Walk to Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer," May 1 at Chicago's Diversey Harbor. Registration begins 8:30 a.m. and opening ceremonies kick off at 9:30 a.m. The walk begins at 10 a.m. Special events will include a spirit tent, music, a health fair, and a survivors' tent with prizes and gifts available for ovarian cancer survivors. All participants will receive a T-shirt and a Pureology gift pack containing Pureology Hydrate Shampoo, Pureology Hydrate Conditioner, and a gym bag.  Pureology is the premiere sponsor of the NOCC's "Walk to Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer."

FAMILY EVENT | Calumet City

Join the Calumet Memorial Park District from 1 to 4 p.m. May 1 for Celebre!, a free family event to be held at Memorial Park, 612 Wentworth Ave. Enjoy live music from Mannix Martinez & his Orchestra, and get a free salsa dance lesson.  And for kids there will be face painting and inflatable rides.  The Family Fun Center's batting cages will be open and available for $1 per 12 balls.

MOTORCYCLE BLESSING, RIDE | South suburbs

The annual George McDonough Memorial Bike Blessing will take place at 11:30 a.m. May 2 at the Tinley Park Police Department, 7850 W. 183rd St. The blessing will take place at 11:45 a.m. and motorcyclists will then depart for a short ride at noon. The ride will proceed east on 183rd to Central, south to Vollmer Road, east to Glenwood-Chicago Heights Road, north to Main Street, east to Cottage Grove Avenue, north to Thornton-Lansing Road and east to Wampum Lake. Food and refreshments will be provided at the lake for participants. Each rider will receive a medallion. McDonough was a police officer who served Thornton and Homewood. He died of complications caused by injuries suffered in a May 2004 motorcycle crash.

The Mexican Patriotic Club of South Chicago presents the eighth annual Cinco de Mayo educators recognition luncheon "Building the Foundation for the Future of Our Children" honoring kindergarten through eighth grade Latino and Latina teachers in South Chicago on May 2. MENTAL HEALTH HELP | Lansing/Crown Point

In recognition of National Mental Health Awareness Month, New Leaf Resources, a Christian counseling agency, will provide free mental health assessments. Log on to their website at www.newleafresources.org/screenings.cfm for a variety of simple screenings for depression, anxiety, alcohol/drug addiction, ADD and more. After completing the screening, contact a therapist to discuss the results.
